4 Common Types Of Blogs (Blog Posts)

Questions like, "what is a blog? Or what are the common types of blogs?" are common among newbie bloggers joining the blogging world. I know you already have an idea of what a blog is, but we will still give a definitive description later on.

Besides that, the key question here is; Are there different types of blogs? Well, the answer to this is, of course, yes. However, the types we will be discussing today in this post are based on context, not structure. What I mean here is structure refers to how the blog post itself is written, while context refers to the category under which that particular blog post falls. And so, the structure is a subcategory of context, which is the main category.

With that said, let's jump right into it!

What is a blog?

In simple terms, a blog is a website that contains important information, comments, personal information, and often images, videos, and hyperlinks that a writer provides. Furthermore, a blog can also refer to a post composed by a writer, which is also known as a blog post. It may be a bit confusing, but once you understand, it is easy.

So, what are the different types of blog posts?

What are different types of blogs?

There are four common types of blogs: Business blogs, Affiliate blogs, Niche blogs, and Personal blogs, as classified by Business2community.com.

Therefore, what does each type entail, and how can you create successful blogs for each type?

Well, let's see!

1.     Business Blogs

Business blogs are a type of blogs that are usually more oriented towards businesses. The main goal of business blogs is actually to generate more leads and drive more traffic to the writer's business. Therefore, business blogs require professional ways of writing, unlike personal blogs, since they have to:

  • Attract potential customers,
  • Follow industry rules, and
  • Effectively promote specific services.

Business bloggers specifically write on topics that align with their industry. Take an auto repair business in Houston, Texas, for example; they will only focus on topics like:

  • "5 Basic Car Repairs You Should Know."
  • "Why is your car overheating?"
  • "4 weekly tips for summer car care in Houston, Texas"

How to create an effective business blog

Blog conversion is a very important aspect, more so for business bloggers, as their main goal is to increase sales. Therefore, how can you create a successful business blog?

To generate and store leads using a business blog, you will have to:

  • Write engaging blog posts: Besides topic research, writing an engaging blog post is without a doubt the most important part. Remember, we are all humans, and when we read something that impresses us or captures our attention or curiosity, we are likely to take the next step.
  • Include Call to Action (CTA): CTA is the next step. Basically, you have to guide your reader into taking action. For example, you can include CTAs like 'Check More Here,' Sign up for our weekly mail update,' etc.

By simply doing these, you are creating an excellent pathway to a successful transaction.

2.     Personal Blogs

Personal blogs are referred to as the pioneers of blogging. This type of blog is basically a person writing about their thoughts, stories, opinions, and advice. Unlike business blogs, these blogs are usually focused on traditional and conventional forms, meaning no rules or protocols to follow.

And so, how can someone create a personal blog?

Well, it's simple, all you have to do is place yourself or your personality as the subject or topic of the blogs. This means your audience will be reading about your personality in a form or blog post. Personal bloggers can write about anything, and in any style or tone, they see best.

What can you write about in your personal blogs?

If you're looking to be a personal blogger, you will never run out of writing topics. Basically, you can write about your:

  • Hobbies
  • Political views
  • Passion
  • Daily routine
  • Life advice
  • Career goals
  • And many more

How to run a successful personal blog?

Just like any other type of blog, you need to have a goal when creating a personal blog. For example, what are you looking for from readers you attract with your content? Do you want them to sign up for your email list? Define the purpose first.

After that, you can now sign up for a domain. For this, there are several websites you can use, such as Blogger or WordPress.

Customize it and then publish it on the internet, and you can now begin writing your blog posts. Remember, your post has to be compelling, entertaining to read, and something worth sharing.

Now to market or increase your blogs visitors, you can do the following:

  • Search for similar blogs, comment on their post and give a link to your site
  • Constantly post short teasers of your compelling stories on sites like Quora and Redditt and link them to your site.
  • Utilize social media pages as well, like, for example, creating Twitter threads.

By simply doing all these, you will be increasing your blog's traffic and boosting its reachability and growth rate.

3.     Affiliate Blogs

Affiliate blogs are a common type of blog that is also almost similar to business blogs. However, the difference is that affiliate blogs are designed to generate commission via affiliate marketing, which isn't the case for business articles.

The main goal of affiliate bloggers is to get paid a small percentage that is usually paid for the sale made through their site. For example, if you write a review article on "10 best teething toys for toddlers." After which, one of your readers clicks a purchase link on one of those toys that sell on Amazon. Therefore, if that reader ends up buying it on amazon using your amazon affiliate link, you will be paid a certain percentage (Commission).

Currently, there are different affiliate programs for which you can sign up. And surprisingly, 81% of brands nowadays market their products and services through affiliate marketing. Therefore, affiliate marketing is such a huge industry that you can venture into and capitalize on.

How to write productive affiliate blogs?

The primary key factor to note when creating an affiliate blog is that you're going to be third-party marketing product. Therefore, choosing a less competitive niche that has considerable traffic is key.

So, what are things you need to do to successfully run this type of blog?

  • Write engaging and convincing product reviews.
  • Conviction in your writing is the key; therefore, avoid half-hearted reviews.

And these two tips are all you need to drive the best out of any affiliate type of blog.

4.     Niche Blogs

Niche blogs are types of blogs that primarily focus on one specific topic. Examples are fitness blogs, Food blogs, travel blogs, Soccer blogs, movie blogs, and many more.

Most professional bloggers will tell you that they started their blogging career via niche blogs. These types of blogs are pretty easy to start with since, most often, you will be working on something you're passionate about. And so, if you're planning to start a blog, it would be ideal for working on a niche about something you like or are passionate about. Don't worry about many things you don't know; put in work, learn, and be open to new experiences, and you will get better with time.

How to create effective Niche blogs?

To create a successful niche blog, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Define your preferred niche:

What niche are you passionate about? Choosing the niche that you like is key to your success and performance.

  • Step 2: Define your Target Group (TG):

A target group refers to a group of audience that you're planning to reach out to with your content. You can define your TG based on Personal likes and dislikes, gender, and age groups.

  • Step 3: Do topic research:

What topics does your target group like to search more based on your niche? By doing this, you will be able to determine the most relevant and searched topics to start with, boosting your blog growth.

  • Step 4: Create compelling content:

Engaging content is the key to audience retention and content sharing. It is no secret that some people share content that compels them anyway, so be sure to write quality content.

  • Step 5: Share your blog posts:

Sharing your blog posts on social media pages or forums will create awareness about your blog and increase traffic.

Now that you know 4 common types of blogs, I think it would be nice to touch on the other types of blogs (the subcategories).
